If you had a superpower, what would it be? Are superheroes vulnerable and can they get their feelings hurt? Start teaching your child about acceptance and compassion with this well-loved paper doll series.

Sex Educator Cath Hakanson has developed a diverse collection of bodies for children to cut, colour and dress. They’re naked and feature male and female anatomy, plus “draw your own” anatomy versions. The book is ideal for sparking conversations about body differences and similarities, but your kids won’t suspect a thing…

With masks, helmets, wheelchairs and walking aids, the costumes provide broad possibilities. Children can create their own characters and family groups – giving you the excuse to start conversations like:

  • What are the correct words for private parts?
  • What’s the difference between male and female bodies?
  • What does transgender mean?
  • What sort of rules do we have about private parts?

You will learn how to:

  • Foster body positivity: Encourage your child to appreciate and embrace the diversity of human bodies, help them develop positive self-image and promote acceptance of others.
  • Promote anatomical knowledge: Teach your child the correct anatomical names for private parts, and empower them with accurate information about their bodies.
  • Explore gender identity: Provide a safe and inclusive platform for your child to explore different gender identities, understand the concept of being transgender, and embrace gender diversity.
  • Learn about intersex bodies: Educate your child about intersex bodies, and foster empathy, understanding, and acceptance towards individuals with diverse biological characteristics.
  • Enhance body safety awareness: Engage your child in discussions about body safety, boundaries, and consent, and empower them with the knowledge to protect themselves and others.
  • Encourage creativity and self-expression: Spark your child's imagination and creativity through the interactive paperdoll activity sheets, and allow them to express themselves and create unique characters.

Get the whole set and enhance your child’s own super-power: compassion for each and every body.

Can I use the packs more than once?

Yes! You can re-print them multiple times (for your own family’s use only).

Won’t this encourage my child to ask questions?

I hope so! Children are naturally curious and full of questions. Where would you like them to get their answers? Their friends? Google? Or you? By enjoying these activities with your child you are showing them that you are a safe person to ask.

Is my child too young for this?

If your child can enjoy cutting, colouring and/or dressing up the dolls, then they’re old enough. You don’t need to pass on information that they might not be ready for. They will let you know when they are ready to know more by asking you questions. The parent’s guides included with the activity packs will help you answer those questions in a way that feels comfortable to you, and that reflects your child’s age and stage of development.

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

If you’re unsure about what to talk about, then that’s fine! As there is a Parent Guide with lots of suggestions on how to get started. You’ll also find conversation starters with ideas on what to talk about.
